I haven’t posted in a long time -the last few months have had me absolutely slammed at work, and so Temian is getting a bit of a raw deal right now – but man, I just couldn’t resist the chance to post about this.
(Here’s a direct link to the Kickstarter page.)
Needless to say, I could not be more excited. I’ve backed it (of course!), and will watch developments with the highest interest.
My highest hope: the Kickstarter will be a raging success, thus leading to more such GURPS Kickstarters in future. That would be amazing!
Even if this turns out to be a one-off, though, it’s still brilliant, as far as I’m concerned. It’s not just a chance to get GURPS Dungeon Fantasy in a spiffy full-color boxed set – though that’s pretty cool by itself. Judging by the discussion so far, it seems as if there has been a lot of consolidation, editorial work, and so on, building on the experience of DF players/GMs over the last decade or so, streamlining things, improving them, and so on.
That’s music to my ears.
A couple of more specific things I’m particularly excited about:
- It seems as if the main PC templates have been revised in such a way as to ensure that everyone has the option to buy a non-human racial package right out of the gate, if they like. That’s great.
- Some revisions to GURPS Magic. It sounds as if Kromm has put in some work revising the spell lists, etc, thus tailoring magic-use specifically to the DF experience, while rubbing some of the existing sharp edges off the GURPS Magic system.
There’s other good stuff too, of course, but those two in particular strike me as exceptionally welcome news – both seem likely to make DF even more playable – especially as the relatively low-prep pick-up-and-play game it’s designed to be.
All in all, just brilliant news!
(P.S To all the Temian fans who have emailed to ask about the hiatus, thanks greatly for your support! I promise to be back with another adventure, just as soon as work calms down a little. Temian has a lot to do….)
