Negotiating for a Better Deal

These are the rules I use when the PCs try to negotiate with their employers.  They’re designed to slot in with the adventure creation system that you can find under A System for Creating Fantasy Adventures

If your adventure has been given to you by an Employer, you can try to convince them to offer you a better deal. Roll a quick contest between one of the PC’s relevant social skills (Diplomacy, Fast-Talk, Merchant etc) and the employer’s skill of 9+Peril+1d6. If you win the contest, you can choose one of the following:

  • Increase the base Financial Reward by 10%.
  • Increase the base Social Reward by 1 point.
  • Take 25% of the Reward money up-front, to cover expedition costs.
  • Gain additional travel expenses of $6xPeril per person, per day of the expected travel time – doubled, if you also need to travel back.

If you win the contest by 5 or more, you can choose two of these options. Win by 10 or more and you can choose three. You can choose the same option twice, adding the results together – but no more than that.

If you lose the contest, subtract 20% from the base Financial Reward, or 1 point from the Social Reward.

If you lose the contest by 5 or more, subtract 20% from the base Financial Reward and 1 point from the Social Reward.
