About

This is a blog about all things roleplaying, and particularly all things GURPS.

Q: Are you really listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for “The Most GURPS-Related Tables Published in a Single Month?”

Why yes!  I’m so glad you noticed!

Ok, so obviously I just invented that world record.  But in the first month of the blog’s existence, I posted no less than 191 GURPS-related tables.  That’s more than 6 new tables a day, for a whole month!  Of course, some of them are pretty silly.  But still, if I don’t hold the record, then I want to see the record-holder’s site – because that site rocks!

Q: Ok, so the site is about RPGs, especially GURPS.  But what else?

My odd obsession is with collaborative roleplaying – i.e. playing without a GM.   I know, I know – I was skeptical, too.  But believe it or not, GM-less roleplaying turns out to be both extremely possible and extremely fun!  So I do some proselytizing for that from time to time.

But’s that’s not the only focus of the blog.  At the moment, most of the material on the site is designed to help you play GURPS Fantasy or GURPS Dungeon Fantasy adventures either collaboratively or solo, and that’s what I’ll chiefly be adding to over the coming weeks.  But a lot of that stuff is also intended to be useful to GMs playing in a more traditional way – and there have certainly been quite a few random RPG thoughts, GURPS musings, and so on, as we’ve gone along.

Q: What about the current series?

My current thing is a Solo GURPS series, The Adventures of Temian Fell –  which I’m enjoying a lot.  In fact, so far it’s been even more fun that I’d hoped, so I’m definitely going to continue it for the foreseeable future – or at least until Temian dies (which could happen at any time!)

  1. Joe,

This is a fantastic resource you’ve created and I can’t wait to put your ideas into action as I launch into a solo campaign of GURPS Discworld! Thanks for the time and effort you’ve put into this, it will save me loads of work as I had been considering how exactly to play an RPG solo given the many restrictions on my free time and lack of fellow gamers!

    Cheers,

    Dom

  2. Joe,

I really like what you’ve done with your solo play and world building. I’m working on an experimental solo play project and I would like to get your opinion on some of the pitfalls of the solo play experience. You can reach me via email, but I can also chat via phone or social media if that’s more convenient. Hope to talk to you soon!

  3. I’ve spent a fair bit of my week writing a settlement generator based off your algorithm… I love it… It’s been a whisky and electro-wing fuelled rampage but I’ll be damned if I don’t love your systems flexibility and scale-ability.

My main question is this…. where is your donate button you troglodyte loving bastard.

  4. Joe,

I am an old GURPS fan, I live in Brazil, and I have been playing the system since 1993. I have always been the GM in sessions with friends, but one day I ended up getting tired of the task. I must say that I really liked your initiative and I am even thinking about applying solo adventures with my 9 year old son.
I have a GURPS blog, named “Covil GURPS” (GURPS Den in english) that you can access at the link:

My most recent article was kind of crazy, as I rambled on adapting ideas from 8-bit video games to GURPS, like Phantasy Star, Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania and Mega Man. If you can, visit the GURPS Den (GURPS ‘Den) ! I would feel honored.
Congratulations on the effort to keep our beloved GURPS always active!

  5. Joe,

I would like a way to contact you about using things here for a generator I am currently coding. It’s a project I intend to fund via Kickstarter, and should the campaign be successful in compensating me for the coding effort I intend to offer the resulting generator for free thereafter.

Let me know the best way to reach you if you’d like to discuss further via email/discord/whatever you prefer !
