Units of Time, Explained

This system tracks the passing of time using a pretty simple abstract method.

Time passes in “Units of Time”.  But the actual real-world duration of those “Units of Time” varies, depending on your circumstances.  In particular, they vary depending on how far away the object of your adventure is.

While traveling, use these units:

  • If your Goal is “Here”, a unit of time is 1 hour
  • If your Goal is “Nearby”, a unit of time is 12 hours
  • If your Goal is “Far” away, a unit of time is 1 day
  • If your Goal is “Very Far” away, a unit of time is 1 week

But in a dungeon, the unit of time is always 4 hours. This makes for a more exciting story – when you near your Goal, the clock starts ticking faster!

Note that these “Here”, “Nearby”, “Far”, and “Very Far” measures are the same used in the How Far Do We Have To Go Table.
